Millennium Transition Is Successful

Garland, Texas - Almost one hundred of Garland Power & Light's employees worked New Year's Eve, as part of GP&L's Y2K contingency plan. Ultimately the contingency plan was not needed, as the clock struck midnight and a New Year was ushered in. All of GP&L's mission critical systems continued to operate successfully. These systems control the production, transmission and distribution of electricity throughout GP&L's system.

Over the past two years GP&L has inventoried, replaced, repaired and tested all of its computer hardware and software systems to ensure Y2K compliance. In addition, GP&L worked with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, natural gas suppliers, and a variety of other regional and national organizations to guarantee uninterrupted service to its customers.

"The successful transition to the year 2000 is a testament to the hard work on the part of all of the employees involved in the Y2K project," stated David Colwell, GP&L's Y2K project manager.

Even though the transition to 2000 was a success GP&L will continue to monitor all systems in the event any unforeseen situation should arise.
