Quick Restoration of Electric Service Following Severe Weather
GARLAND, Texas, June 7, 2004 - Recent nights of thunderstorms and lightning caused power outages throughout North Texas. In the City of Garland, a few thousand customers experienced outages. Garland Power & Light (GP&L) repaired outages affecting larger areas in less than an hour and most other outages by early morning following the storms.
The quick restoration is attributed to GP&L employees being on-call and ready to handle any problems arising from the storms. Additionally, preventative maintenance including tree trimming and upgrades to the system has helped to ensure reliability of electric service.
"Most outages were due to feeder lockouts, while others were individual problems due to loss of power between the distribution power line and homes," said Frank Owens, GP&L's Transmission Operations Manager.
Several customers have already contacted GP&L, pleased with the swift restoration of power as compared to their friends who were without power elsewhere in North Texas. |
