Utility Customers Can Now Pay with Credit or Debit Cards via Telephone or Online

GARLAND, Texas, April 4, 2005 – City of Garland utility customers are now able to pay their utility bills from the convenience of their homes or offices with a credit or debit card via phone (972-205-2671), or by visiting www.garlandutilities.org. There is also a link from the GP&L website www.garlandpower-light.org.

"We have been advocating the development of a system for accepting credit and debit card payments since last spring," said Customer Service Administrator Renee Ramey. "It’s a great step because in last summer’s market research, many customers said they were very interested in paying their bills this way."

Credit and debit card payment will provide 24-hour customer convenience, save on stamps, and help customers avoid potential late fees. There is no service charge for these payments.

Customers need to have their utility bill and credit (Visa, MasterCard or Discover) or debit (Visa or MasterCard) card information in hand when they call or login. The credit or debit card information can be securely saved for future transactions.

Payments will be posted within 24 hours. Customers can write down or print out the confirmation number as verification of the transaction. Alternately, an e-mail confirmation will be sent if an e-mail address is provided.

For more information, visit www.garlandpower-light.org or call Customer Service at 972-205-2671.
