GP&L Implements Fuel Cost Factor Increase

GARLAND, Texas, January 5, 2006 - Effective January 1, 2006, the Garland City Council has approved an increase in the fuel cost factor component of the rate for electric service provided by Garland Power & Light (GP&L). The new fuel factor is 5% below TXU’s price-to-beat fuel factor.

The dramatic increase in the cost of natural gas used to generate electricity has affected electric utilities in Texas and across the country. This fuel factor adjustment is needed to recoup GP&L’s costs and to maintain revenue requirements.

GP&L remains committed to providing electricity to Garland customers at prices below TXU’s price-to-beat rate. Comparing electric usage of 1000 kWh, GP&L customers will pay $139.48 while TXU price-to-beat customers will pay $144.11.
