GP&L Named Tree Line USA Utility
Garland, TX, May 02, 2011 – The Arbor Day Foundation has certified Garland Power & Light as a Tree Line USA Utility for practices that protect the community’s trees and other vegetation. The utility achieved the award the first year it applied.
"We have focused on both enhanced vegetation management and environmental sensitivity for a number of years," said Transmission and Distribution Supervisor Jonas Whitehead. "This certification demonstrates our leadership in protecting trees while we meet our service objectives," he added.
To achieve the accreditation, GP&L fulfilled several requirements, all of which confirm GP&L's support of the environment. These requirements include following industry standards for quality tree care; training employees in best tree-care practices; and having tree planting and public education programs.
On behalf of GP&L, Whitehead has accepted national and state recognition for the Tree Line USA Award. The most recent event was the 122nd State Arbor Day Ceremony in Pearland, hosted by the Texas Forest Service.
Tree trimming guidelines, information on trees and shrubs that require less trimming, and GP&L's vegetation standards are available on www.garlandpower-light.org.

GP&L's Jimmy Foster and Jonas Whitehead proudly display the Tree Line USA Utility flag that was presented to the utility at the 122nd State Arbor Day Ceremony in Pearland, Texas.
