Wind Power for GP&L Customers
Garland, TX, Nov. 4, 2015 – Garland Power & Light is now receiving power generated from the Spinning Spur 3 wind farm, located west of Amarillo. The wind development provides GP&L with up to 50 megawatts of power, about 10 percent of the utility's annual energy needs.
"I am pleased that we are adding wind to GP&L's energy resources, an investment that diversifies our power portfolio at a competitive price," said GP&L General Manager & CEO Jeff Janke. He added, "This is a clean resource that will benefit our customers for years to come."
GP&L's next wind project, Los Vientos V, is located west of McAllen in South Texas and will provide up to 50 megawatts beginning December 2015. A third wind project, Salt Fork, is located east of Amarillo and will provide up to 35 megawatts in December 2016. The wind energy from all three projects is being acquired through long-term power purchase agreements.
Beyond these projects, GP&L continues to evaluate renewable power opportunities that will provide power at competitive prices.
