Students Say "The Power Plant Ruled!"

GARLAND, Texas, July 9, 2004 — A group of 4th graders from Farmersville ISD took the time to write thank you notes after taking tours of Garland Power & Light’s Olinger Power Plant. Bobby Chandler, Percy Airhart, Glenn Bagwell, Tommy Monk and Tommy Gandy conducted the tours. Here are excerpts from some of the letters.

"Everything was very interesting and funner than I thought."
— Jason

"I really liked it, especially when we walked up all the stairs. Also the room with all the pipes. It was like a maze."
— Daxton

"You are a good tour guy."
— Demetryus

"The best thing I learned was if you get closer than six feet to the big powerful thing with all the power, it will shock you."
— Ashlee

"You taught me one megawatt can light five thousand houses. P.S. I think the Power Plant ruled!"
— Ashley

"You taught me so much, like you clean water with chemicals. I thought that when you put a chemical in water, it would make it dirty. I never thought it would clean water."
— Ryan

"I learned that the electricity pole can kill you if you touch it one time. If you touch someone who is being shocked it will travel and shock you."
— Lorilei

"It’s amazing how much you can learn in one tour. One thing I learned is that you have a back up for almost everything, so if something breaks down you have something to boot it up and get things running again."
— Kimberly

"I forgot all you said, but it will come back to me."
— Joseph

"I loved the hat and earplugs. I gave the earplugs to my grandma for when I play my CDs loud!"
— Jordan

"If your job at the plant is easy, maybe when I grow up I will work there."
— Lynsey
